Reciprocity
A Living Commitment
At Libélula, healing does not exist in isolation.
Our work is rooted in reciprocity — with the land that holds us, the Indigenous communities who share their wisdom, the local people of Costa Rica, and the wider web of life we are all part of.
We believe that true healing must give back. Not as charity from above, but as relationship, responsibility, and respect.
Reciprocity with the Land
The land is not just the setting for our work — it is an active participant in it.
We honour the land through regular offerings and practices of gratitude, including fruit altars that nourish local birdlife, insects, and the soil itself. These acts are not symbolic gestures, but lived relationships — acknowledgements of what sustains us every day.
As Libélula grows, so does our commitment to regeneration. One of our long‑term visions is that every retreat space filled contributes directly to reforestation, with trees planted in our local area, and around the rest of the world.
Working with Indigenous Communities
We are deeply grateful to the Indigenous elders, healers, and medicine carriers who walk alongside us.
A portion of retreat funds is dedicated to supporting Indigenous communities, particularly within the Amazon, in ways that respect sovereignty, culture, and self‑determination.
Our support includes:
Community‑led projects such as artesian wells for clean water
Education and cultural preservation initiatives
Direct support for villages to sustain their traditions and way of life
We work in relationship, not extraction. Honouring the medicines means honouring the people, lineages, and lands they come from.
Supporting Women & Women’s Wellbeing
Supporting women is a central pillar of our reciprocity work.
Through our charity Love Our Moon, we address period poverty and menstrual health, both locally and internationally. We donate reusable, natural, and sustainable menstrual products — including menstrual cups — because access to safe menstrual care is a fundamental human right.
This work is about more than hygiene. It is about dignity, education, confidence, and empowerment — supporting women’s physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing at every stage of life.
Our Local Community & Beyond
We are deeply committed to making a positive impact right here in Costa Rica.
Libélula is nestled within a vibrant local community that we cherish and actively support. We engage with local villagers through ongoing initiatives that help improve living conditions, provide resources, and support education, always working in relationship rather than from a place of separation.
We prioritise local livelihoods wherever possible, employing local team members and collaborating with Costa Rican builders, craftspeople, and suppliers. Libélula itself was built by a team of over thirty highly skilled Costa Rican builders, using natural materials sourced from Costa Rica and Nicaragua. The carvings you see throughout the centre were created by their hands — something we hold with deep gratitude.
Our outreach extends beyond our immediate surroundings. We also support homeless populations, children in need, and Indigenous communities across Costa Rica. Whether through donations, partnerships, or direct support, our intention is to uplift and empower those who need it most, creating a ripple effect of kindness, dignity, and sustainable change.
As Libélula continues to grow, so too will our capacity to support and uplift the communities around us — honouring the land, respecting its people, and walking forward with care and responsibility.
As we continue to grow and evolve, so too will our capacity to support and uplift the communities around us. Every step forward is an opportunity to make a deeper, more lasting impact—honouring the land, respecting its people, and fostering positive change. Together, with your support and awareness, we can create a brighter future for all.
